RDP (more than two connections) in Windows Server Domain

I have a domain consisting of 2003 Server OS's , Workers VPN into the domain and then use RDP (MS Remote Desktop) to access the server they wish to develop on. The issues is we can only have two connections at a time on each server. How can i increase this? who much does it cost?

Agreed...

Licensing is a slippery slope for advice. I would definitely consult MS reseller. I use CDW or Sarcom and always get good response. When you update your license you will be allowed more simultaneous connections.

one trick you can use is /console to get 3 connections
/console may not work.  Nor do you want to advise that for these purposes.  Terminal Services in Application mode is the most appropriate.

(/console is a function of the RDP client - sometimes it's not available.  And in new versions, it's /admin (and /console won't even work).  Plus, using RDP from a web site, you cannot use either.  And finally, 2008 and later did away with that - it's only available on 2003 - so if you start relying on it, you may get annoyed and disappointed when you change versions.

can someone explain  Terminal Services in Application mode. does it ADD more available connetions? if i buy five does that mean i can now have 7 people on my box? does that mean five per server or five to share on the domain across all servers? do i renew yearly or is it a one time purchase?

FYI: USER CALs are best when you want to assign one user the ability to connect to the terminal server.
DEVICE CALs are best when you want to allow ANYONE to connect but only from a specified device (say a terminal in a factory floor).
all i want is for more then two people to be albe to RDP as they do now. Changing NOTHING to what they can or cant do on the servers....
Regardless - you NEED to switch your mode and buy licenses.  There is NO LEGAL WAY (and I'm not personally aware of any illegal way) to get more than 3 simultaneous connections without using Application mode and purchasing licenses.  PERIOD.

And you MAY be in violation of licensing by using the system in the way you are right now (I don't know - and I'm not trying to judge - I assume you, like MANY of us, myself included, didn't spend days reading the license agreement - it MAY be that Microsoft limits how you use the software.  I don't know.  But I'm sure you want to be legal in your use of the product, so I'm pointing out the POSSIBILITY).
are there other tools for RDP? like different programs, not web based though like GotoMyPC or webex.

But I prefer UltraVNC or TightVNC... They have a server side component, and a client, as well as a web client. They do not support the MSTSC.EXE, but their own is quick, painless and if deployed right, provide security that is integrated with AD or local groups. It is also easy to remote deploy through scripting to remote computers without actually doing an installation.

You can modify ports to mirror the RDP servers if you wish, although it uses 5900 or 5800 natively (one for web, one for client based.)

Let me clarify after reading your post, that these will not extend your number of clients allowed.
Linux has several by the way... most popular free is LTSP... but there are many others...
