Device driver for video encoder chip linux

I have to write a device driver for a video encoder chip(CX93510).
I have a devlopment board with ARM926ej processer which is booted up with linux. I have to use SPI interface for chip (CX93510).

Can you please suggest me how to start. If you can elaborate on clear steps it will be highly appreciable.
Can I get sample driver code for similar device.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The very first thing to do is learning to write device drivers for linux.

My suggestion is this book:

and also rubini's bible:
Linux Device Drivers:

Second, study the chip you should use. Study the protocol, how it works, etc.
Third, define the interface of the driver, if you cannot reuse the standard interface of this kind of drivers under linux.
Four, write the driver.

Hope that helps (I agree, it's not much suggestions, but I cannot see any different way, I tell you this by my personal experience.)
