HP Printer Universal Driver printing problems

After installing Laserjet 2200 in server 2008 with Universal Print driver PCL5, x64 and x86, I added the printer to the workstation using it  (XP SP3 x86) and everything worked just fine.
I installed the printer twice, 1 for each tray.

After a while it started massing up the printing, blank pages, smilie and small heart shape characters on the pages etc`..  this is obviously a driver issue, question is how do I fix it?

Do I HAVE to use the universal print driver ? if i try to install the dedicated Laserjet 2200d driver it does not let me, stating that I must choose a x64 compatible driver since the server is 2008.

Universal print driver is so messy to deal with and causes all sorts of compatability problems!
Any help would be appreciated.

After changing the driver in the server 2008 print management from Universal driver to Laserjet 4 driver it's working well so far (even though it's a Laserjet 2200d).

Any suggestions/tips for better/correct handling/use of the drivers in a x64 environment ?

Try using the postscript driver.

Will experiment with it next time something goes wrong, so far so good with the Laserjet 4 driver.
