Vertically align text Action script 2.0

Hi, I'm very new to action script and I have my first project completed.  One last thing that would add the icing to the cake would be if I could vertically align my text in my dynamic text box, theText. The content of the text is read in from a xml file

Is this possible and if so how?

Also, please bear in mind I'm completely new to this

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Tia Flo,

This is a good link. I made a quick demo file with the relevant code.

Could you elaborate a little more on what you mean? Do you mean text that is rotated?

Flash CS5 has several new text capabilities, including vertical alignment.

But look around in the settings panel in while the textField is highlighted, and you might come across options for the effects you want.

Could you elaborate more on what you are trying to do? If you cannot find those text capabilities in Flash, just ask and I can write up some code that will work.

HI thanks for the example but Andreas is right, I should have more specific.

What I want is for the text to appear in the middle on the text box rather than at the top

Thanks

Ah, I see now.

No, sorry. There is no direct way to set the formatting of the text so it alilgns that way, however, it is possible to move the textField up and down depending on it's current height. That way, it acts just as if it were aligning vertically.

Here are a few links which touch on it:

The following is the link to the Language Reference on the topic of AS2 TextFields. The Language Reference is a great source of information, however, it's a little dry at times. Use it like you would a Dictionary, as a lookup reference, not a book that you read from start to finish. ;)
