Alert on textbox onClick

I want to throw an alert box when user clicks into input text field and I need to script it in the page head instead of inline. Something like below, but it's not working for me.
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
 var theTextField = document.getElementById('new_otherphoneTextBox');
 theTextField.onClick = alert("Got it");
</script>

Open in new window

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can do that easily using jquery like:

    <script src="scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

    <script type="text/javascript">
        $(function() {
            $('#new_otherphoneTextBox').click(function() {
                alert("Got it");
            });
        });
</script>

OK. Is there a way for jQuery to fire on right-click instead of regular click?

I'm not a jquery-pro ...
Check this: http://www.tutcity.com/view/modify-right-click-menu-behavior-with-jquery.24612.html

$("#new_otherphoneTextBox").bind("contextmenu", function(e) {
    return false; //this will disable right click on the textbox
});
