adobe acrobat pro 9 missing menu items in vista

I have the full pro version of adobe acrobat for pdf's installed on XP machines.  I installed on a Vista machine and the program is lacking some menu options.  The task menu bar is missing and the  'create pdf' and 'combine' options under 'file' are missing ... among others.  Updates have been installed and the versions are fully licensed.  I'm on eternal hold by their tech support ....

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I also ran the repair option under the 'help' menu with no results.  When acrobat is not open you can normally still right click items in explorer and have pdf combining options in XP, but that is not working in Vista either.

Also I am attempting all these operations in an administrator account.  It doesn't matter if it is a user or admin account.

1.) Is your machine low on ram? Sometimes when the cache is full, it stops applications from loading code.
2.) Aside from that try right clicking the Setup.exe and run as administrator.
3.) Right Click Setup.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP
4.) Your version should be the latest version, suggestion #3 would be if it is an older version of Acrobat.

Hi

if ALT+F8 to reset toolbars does not help (and if Explorer functions are also missing, why should it?) I would follow luckbox' suggestion of updating ACROBAT to 9.3:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows

Then patch to the latest 9.3.2using the incrementals or the Check for updates under Help option.

enabling document rights may be the problem ..... there is an asterisk indicating this in the add more tools option next to 'tasks'.  below 'tasks' there are no selectable items.
