Server 2003 installation error. Windows cannot be installed on the partition you selected

See the attatched Error message. I'm recieving this message when installing server 2003 on "what I am told" is a brand new machine. I have deleted this partition several times and started over with the same results, it just keeps looping back to this. It never gave me the option to format the disk like most installations do. If anyone can tell me how to fix this I would appreciate it.

Hi CJ27,

Can you try to use a different windows Server 2003 Disk and check if that helps....

If not then go to BIOS and check if the SATA support is enabled.....

Thanks

Is this setup being installed on a raid array, if so you may have a bad drive.  Please check your hardware vendor site for a diagnostic utility and verify all drives are good.

Something else you could try is to do a low level format format / zero write (Twice), or try using FDISK from a dos floppy and try the install again.

this is a weird error i got it twice and it has no fix solution

1..Make this drive slave with an working  HDD where OS is already installed now right click on the partition you made on this whhen you had problem and format with NTFS file system now remove it as a slave drive make it primary and try installing OS

2.Try making new partition on free space left

3.Try using another installation media

4.Was there was any other OS installed on this partition before like Windows 7 or any other? if this is correct format with the same OS CD/DVD first.

above are tricks i used when i got this and got success with those ideas.... hopefully will work for you also

Cheers

Hello,

One thing do, if you can connect that hdd to another windows servers. Then go to Disk Management. You will see there is another disk then you can format this 152626 MB partition. Now install the hdd to your existing server & run the setup of windows server 2003.
