SAN read write speed test

hi all

we have a SAN configured and divided into 4 arrays for SQL.

is there any test i could do to simply test the read and write time between the discs to ensure i have no firmware/config issues etc etc ? eg when copying from one of the arrays to another what transfer speed is acceptable etc?

its a EMC Navisphere Express
Version 6.23.6.0.6

IOmeter is a good tool, but you have to understand how to use it and how to interpret the results: http://www.iometer.org/

Microsoft has a SQL Server stress testing tool: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163983.aspx - again, you have to know how to interpret the results.

How many disks in the groups on the EMC array? What sort of disks are they? Are they 10K Fibre Channel, 15K Fibre Channel or SATA? What RAID type is being used? What performance do you need from the storage?

hi  meyersd, i started another thread thinking they where different question but really they are the same .. regarding what performance i need - im not sure. i just want to know if someone with a trained eye can spot a potential hazard!

the following is what sqliosim has told me

all the drives are 300GB 15k rpm sata
E and G are both raid 1 and 2 discs each
F is 6 discs in raid 10
