RWW problem

I'm having problems accessing an SBS 2008 network remotely.

Although, it can be accessed internally, external is a non-starter.

I can't even open a page using http://MyExternalIP/remote let alone trying to access it by name.

The SBS firewall is turned off for the moment, and the Netgear firewall (FVS318) has ports 25, 80, 443 and 987 pointing to the server.

Port 3389 is also pointing at the server but I can't access it by RDP remotely. Again, this is fine locally. So although it appears a firewall problem, I'm wondering if the server is restricting remote access?

Thanks for any ideas.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

Run SBS 2008 Best Practice Analyzer and fix the errors reported.

Also run the Connect to the Internet Wizard.

Scan public ip for blocked ports at http://www.hashemian.com/tools/port-scanner.php

One more thing are you able to access OWA.
mikeabc27Author Commented:
No cannot access OWA remotely and port scanner didn't work very well. From a local PC I could access server through RWW by http://servername:987
Shreedhar EtteCommented:
Can you provide the public ip, I want perform the port scan at http://mxtoolbox.com/PortScan.aspx
Shreedhar EtteCommented:
Does RWW ever worked?

Updated the firmware of the firewall.

Also check the firewall log whether any request is reaching there.
mikeabc27Author Commented:
I've never had RWW working on this PC but only spend a short time trying.
Router firmware is a few years old, but was the latest available.
Nothing from my IP showing, nearly all internal requests.
Interestingly, I tried the mxtoolbox port scanner and that showed EVERY port closed including 25, 80 and 443.

Shreedhar EtteCommented:
I suspect the problem with the router configuration.

Have you done below things:
Run SBS 2008 Best Practice Analyzer and fix the errors reported.

Also run the Connect to the Internet Wizard.
mikeabc27Author Commented:
You resolved it with the mxtoolbox link.
I knew every was working internally and I knew the router was basically ok, it either works or it doesn't.
However, the firewall router connects to a BT modem router which has a firewall buit in which is a bit lightweight. This is set to DMZ and passes everything through to the Netgear, but a recent powercut had reset everything and turned the BT firewall back on so everything was being blocked.
I am  still unable to access RWW and I am trying https://xx.xx.xx.xx/remote and https://remote.xx.xx.xx.xx/remote, but get the page cannot be displayed msg.
Although, I prefer RDP which is working perfectly now, I do need to be able to have RWW for the staff there.
Shreedhar EtteCommented:
Run Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard once and then check the RWW and OWA.
