How to unlock Iphone 3g iphone OS 3.1.3 model:MB048LL Firmware: 05.12.01?

I had iphone os 3.1.2 jailbroken and unlocked. But my phone crashed last week and I end up updating to os 3.1.3. But I had no success in unlocking. I tried downgrading to OS 3.1.2 (using itunes method, redmond..), but phone crashed in unlocking or booting. I could only restore it to 3.1.3 version. I searched everyplace  for unlock for OS 3.1.3 and my new bootram (MB048LL), but could not find any. My phone is really useless now since I have tmobile service. Please advice.

You are in luck because you have an MB serial number on your iPhone.  To jailbreak and unlock again, you just simply need to downgrade your iPhone to 3.1.2.  To do this, you can find a download link for the 3.1.2 firmware (google Felixbruns iPod for a good website).  Once you have this firmware, move it to a place that you can find it, such as My Documents.  Now, plug in your iPhone to the computer hold Shift and click Restore.  It will come up with a Windows Explorer window where you select the firmware that you would like to downgrade to.  Downgrade to the 3.1.2 firmware that you downloaded previously.  You can now jailbreak and unlock your iPhone because you are on 3.1.2 firmware!  Good luck!

If you need a full guide with pictures, you can visit this forum thread.  You can ignore the part about the hosts file because you are not on a 3rd Generation device.

Well, what is the worst that could happen?  You can always restore if something goes wrong.  If you have a 3G iPhone (not the 3GS) the downgrade will work 100% of the time, as long as you get the correct firmware download.

After changing the host file and download the os. I tried three times, but no success. It failed while restoring firmware with error 1015. The file I downloaded is iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore for my iphone 3g. This is only only version available for download. I guess mine is new bootram. Pls let me know if you any other methods

Try put your device into DFU mode (device firmware upgrade mode).  Plug your iPhone into your computer.  Hold the power button past the slide to unlock page (around 12 seconds) and as soon as your iPhone turns off, hold the home button for another 15 seconds until you hear a "Du-du" on your computer.  Then, try to shift restore using that firmware that you downloaded.

TRY THIS BEFORE PREVIOUS COMMENT: After further review, it looks like you have the firmware loaded onto your iPhone but it doesn't want to boot up.  Using that same firmware, try and jailbreak using RedSn0w 9.1.2 or 9.1.4 and see how it goes.  You can download RedSn0w here: http://rapidshare.com/files/345591618/redsn0w-win_0.9.2.zip

I think that should work, if it doesn't, try my comment above this one.

I tried as you suggested. It went to recovery mode in itunes. I did this for three times.

Also I tried redsn0w-win_0.9.4. I was able to jailbreak but no luck with unlocking. The iphone keep reboot after unlock

Well, once you are jailbroken and have cydia with RedSn0w, try to run Blackra1n and get that on your iPhone so you could get BlackSn0w onto it.

I have jailbroken. Installed cydia. Then installed Blackra1n. Received message in Blackra1n that iphone unlocked. Then it says loading software then hanged. When I reboot I see only iphone logo and does not move further.

SpeedyApocalypseCommented:
Well, connect your phone to iTunes (you may have to put it into DFU mode) and then Restore and try the process again.  Hopefully it won't hang this time >.<  Make sure that you are on the RC3 version of Blackra1n.

EDIT:  I know what we did wrong.

Jailbreak your iPhone again (you may have to downgrade).  On Cydia, download FuzzyBand.

Once you have downloaded FuzzyBand, it will check your iPhone's bootloader version.  Pray that it is 05.08 :)  If it is, click Downgrade and it will say flashing for around 1 minute to 2 minutes.  Once it says that you have downgraded your baseband, hop back onto Cydia and look for "UltraSn0w" without the quotes.

Once you have downloaded UltraSn0w, you just follow the instructions and you will have an unlocked iPhone.  This video is great and outlines these steps in an easy to follow voice tutorial, I urge you to check it out.

I hope this works for you :)

MB2009: What iphone do you have 3g, 3gs, 8gb, 16gb . . . . I heard you say T-mobile???

I had the same provider on my iPhone 3gs 16gb and I have no Carrier lock any more and it's jailbreak'd like a (@#&$) it works like a charm and it's really stable.

If I were you I would try like I did and just call T-mobile with a lame excuse that you'd received this phone from a friend or your Boss as a replacement to your broken phone and you really need to be able to receive phone calls due to your work etc etc. and for me they unlocked my phone within the hour :)

and just for the information Apple techs have mentioned the fact that the 3.1.3. Firmware ( once upgraded from 3.1.2. ) the carrier software unlock will not work!
