Word 2007 completely freezes

Cannot open Word 2007 on my Win 7 Professional laptop in either Office Safe Mode or normal mode. First installed SP2, no luck. Then tried to detect and repair, no luck, then completely removed office 2007 and then reinstalled and no luck.  I have renamed the two normal.dotm templates I have found with no luck also. Help!!

Do you get an error message when you try to open it?  Or anything?
Have you upgraded from Office 2003 or prior? There may be residual stuff on your drive in the registry. That may need deleting.
Also, if you have tried an install of the beta 2010 version of Office this will mess up 2007 installations. I found that to my cost.
Try removing ALL entries in the registry to any Office version and then reinstall your correct one.
If that doesn't work then there is probably an issue with Windows or maybe even trojans, spyware or viruses.
Not a solution but maybe a hint of where to go from here.

JOr, There is no error message. Only the splash screen shows and then hangs.
Augustus, This is a brand new Dell Windows 7 Pro laptop, Office 2007 is the only installed version, no upgrade or beta was installed.
I would try the regedit deleting the Word data key... per
http://www.brad.net.nz/blog/2009/11/word-2007-crashing-on-windows-7-or-wont-open-documents/

To quote a portion from the site:

"To resolve this problem, delete the  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data registry  subkey. To do this, follow these steps: Exit all Office programs.
Click Start type regedit in the Start  Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an  administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or  click Continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
On the Edit menu, click Delete,  and then click Yes.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart Word."

and

"This is the outline of the problem as given by Microsoft

You install an automatic update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 on a Windows Vista-based computer and then restart the computer. If Word 2007 was running when the computer was restarted, you experience one or more of the following symptoms:

        * The mouse does not work when you use Word.
        * You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows Vista.
        * You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
        * Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
        * Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
        * Word crashes when you save a document.
        * Word crashes when you close a document.

The first thing to note is that this problem applies to Windows 7 now as well as Vista. However, the automatic fix it script that you can download to fix the problem will not work on Windows 7 so you have to fix the problem manually (I will get to this soon)."

It apparently has something to do with MS automatic updates.  See KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B940791
This problem only occurs when I am connected to my network, when I am off the network Word opens every time. Any thoughts??

Yea i did a detect and repair. then i completely uninstalled Office and then reinstalled it. Like I said, it only hangs when I am plugged into my office network. When I am not on the LAN it opens fine. Nobody else with office 2007 has this issue and I do not believe that it is virus or antivirus related.
And you've tried running it with /a?

Perhaps it's a network issue.... can anyone else open Word 2007?  Or don't they have Win 7 laptops?
It was the default network printer.  I changed the default printer to the VDS Microsoft Printer and it opens fine now.  Thanks for helping out guys.
I found the solution on my own but he was helpful
Well what was the solution?
