I need to beable to get the short date format for any pc
some are in USA, some Canada some South Africa

so I can then use that specfic format to format a string "01/01/63"

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello, hainansyndrome,

srikanthreddyn143's suggestion will do the conversion for you.  But if for some reason you actually need to have the format string, you can get it using:

    Application.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern

See the attached snippet for a trivial example.

Cheers,
Randy

        MsgBox("Current short date format is """ & _
               Application.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern & """.")

    End Sub
