Backup Exec Database Maintenance Failure

We are running Backup Exec 12 on a Windows 2003 SP2 server and I keep getting an alert stating there was an "Error," Database Maintenance Failure.  See below;
Summary of database maintenance activity:

* Performed database consistency check for BEDB database
* Saved contents of BEDB database
* Optimized BEDB database size from 30.31 MB to 30.31 MB
* Deleted expired data for BEDB database:
     39 expired audit logs were deleted
     1 expired reports were deleted
     0 expired job histories were deleted
     51 expired alert histories were deleted
     0 expired job logs were deleted

Maintenance has failed: -536837662, -536837662: :: -2147217873:The statement has been terminated.

I have looked around for the appropriate fix but none seem to fit our bill.  We do not run DLO.
Starting from ground zero, how can I get this fixed?

Have you tried cleaning and repairing the database?

The last resort could be to create a new database. I had to do that one time. The problem is then you have to recreate all of you jobs and schedules.
