backup exec 10 I cant delete anything why?

I have a recently upgraded backup exec 10 , and I can not delete any tape or backup to disk job the option to delete is greyed out , why ? I have full rights and i can move the tape to retired media but still cannot delete it

you mean erase
from devices tape--->select the tape need to be erased--->right click--->select quick/long erase

Actually these are old Backup-to-Disk "tapes", and that method of backing things up never worked for us.  Now they're just stuck there, with red circle/slashes over the media type picture...but we can't make them go away.

ok i understand now
first step is to make make all existing backup jobs backup to another media
and restart backup services then you can delete it
