Connecting Data Migration Manager to Dynamics CRM
I have been trying to connect to my new CRM 4.0 server using the Data Migration Manager for over a day now and have had zero success or progress. Every time I enter the Intranet address, I get the following message:
“The configuration wizard cannot connect to the Microsoft CRM server. This might indicate that the server is down.”
I have literally tried everything I can think of, including joining the domain and entering the full URL. I can access the CRM from my computer with Internet Explorer with no problems. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Are you using a host header for the CRM web site or have you changed the port number for the web site after installation? If so, then you may need to fix up one of the tables in the deployment database. Let me know if this is the case and I'll advise what needs to be done
