Increas Signal Strength of WRT54GC

I have a Linksys WRT54GC for 5 years, Since last month i see the signal strength being dropping considerably.

Is it common to have the signal dropped when the router gets aged :( ?

Should i go for a new router or can i get some antenna or something that will increase or boost the signal on the router?

If an antenna is suggested what should i go for?
