change windows 7 language

I ordered a PC with Windows 7 and got it last week
(Windows 7 Édition Familiale Premium authentique 64bit)
Unfortunately, I made a mistake and got the Deutch version of Windows instead of the French version !
The supplier (I will not name it grrrr....) told me : you made that mistake but now you have to by a new Windows 7 version in French (price around 300 euros)
But a friend of mine told me there is a way to not reinstall a new Windows 7
I still have the genuine Windows 7 DVD
How can I fix this ?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi LeTay, so sorry this happened to you ... what a shady supplier!

Unfortunately changing the language is only available with Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise. These are the only versions that support Multilingual User Interface (MUI), where language packs can be freely downloaded/installed. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972813 or http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/thread/d58fb37b-cb02-41c8-986f-22582fd35a12 for more information.

From your post, I believe Windows 7 Édition Familiale Premium is the same as Windows 7 Home Premium here in the US version ... which essentially means you're stuck. You will need to buy the French version, or seek out the EU equivalent of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Hope this helps, though I'm sorry under the circumstances!

By the way, you should NOT need to purchase new software/DVDs. Windows Anytime Upgrade is available for $139 USD (€102). See http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-Anytime-Upgrade-Windows-7-Home-Premium-to-Ultimate/product/73C70758

Apologies for the duplicate post. Found this page in French, if that is easier to follow.  I wanted to be a good global citizen.  :)
