"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There are two ways to create a website in VS.

If you use "File|New Website" VS will create the solution files as a subfolder of its default projects location, regardless of where you create the website. This could account for why you are seeing the solution file somewhere else.

This default folder is set in Tools|Options|Projects & Solutions.

If you use "File|NewProject" and choose "ASP.NET web application" from the list of possible templates, then the solution files and website source files all wind up in the same folder -- the one you specify in the "location" box.

Not sure where those long filenames are coming from, tho.
