devenv hangs in task manager. Also EXCEL..

This is an annoyance to say the least. Every time I end VS2005 or even EXCEL from Office 2007 I have to go into the task manager and kill the processes. If I don’t they pile up. I have had over 8 devene.exe and EXCEL.exe processes running without the application running. I am offering 500 points to anyone who can help me with this annoyance. Though I have a work around I am plagued with killing the task each time before I launch another instance.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

for starters,

Option 1 - Can you see if you have any add-ins enabled in Excel? Does disabling them resolve your issue?

Option 2 - (I bet you would not like this) Have you tried re-installing Office 2007 again?

let me know if that helps,
Thanks,
Ardhendu

That really looks like you have add-ins/plug-ins in both which do not terminate. I would have a look with depends with profiling and starting VS or Excel, or ProcExp of www.sysinternals.com on the terminating process, which DLLs are still loaded, which threads are running aso.

Amazing pari123 was first and spot on and thank goodness option1. I have had add-on's in VS2005 and EXCEL but this issue just happened recently. One add-on was a part of EXCEL but I was surprised to find after removal it solved the devenv issue as well. RingCentral's task tray app attaches to Office applications in order to send faxes. So I am confused as to why it solved the VS2005 issue as well. Still happy camper so thanks again to EE group.
