MS Exchange 2007 / Windows Server 2003 / Citrix

Suddenly this morning certain users cannot open MS outlook or login to their webmail.

Error Messags:

MS OFFICE OUTLOOK:
Cannot start Microsoft Office outlook.  Unable to open the outlook window.  The set of folders could not be opened.

WEBMAIL:
Unable to open message store

I beleive the problem is related to their accounts and not their sessions (or local installs) because i can login to webmail on their machine (desktop) as myself and i can duplicate the error they receive when i open a webmail session on my machine with their credentials.

These user all work in a citrix published desktop environment with office 2003.

Last night we had a major power outage which cause most shutdown, i noticed that our domain controller and mail server was down.  Citrix servers (where most of these user work) started before the domain controller which caused licensing problems.

I would recommend that you start by using the Eseutil utility to check the integrity of your Exchange stores. You can find info on using the utility here:

Thanks for the quick response.  I logged onto the EMC and noticed that the database which handles the bad mailboxes is DISMOUNTED.  I never ran Eseutil before, does it take a long time to do an integrity check or repair?

Do what Jacob78 says.  Check the Exchange databases for issues and then restart the Citrix servers.

It all depends on the size of your mailbox store. You should defiantly run it since it sounds like Exchange did not have a graceful shutdown.
