Microsoft Report - Free Form

Is there a way to build a ssrs report that is free-form, i.e. =not matrix or tabular.

Currently to do this I have just added textboxes to the report, however I am unsure how to add grouping and sorting so that it shows one record per a page.

Thanks

You have to have a table of some kind.
either a reg. table or matrix
In matrix you can have texboxes free floating but you have to have a group to produce more than one record per page.

You can do certain kinds of free-form things in SSRS 2008, by using a few tricks. It could be harder in SSRS 2005, but might be possible depending on what you want to do.

Some of the tools available are:
  • Hiding and showing rows and columns based upon whether fields are present in the dataset (hiding columns doesn't work so well in SSRS 2005, though)
  • Using custom code or a custom assembly to dynamically map fields to report columns by constructing the query at run time
Two questions:
  1. What version are you using?
  2. What exactly do you want to do? A picture might help. You might simulate a view of the report in a spreadsheet and attach it here.
