SharePoint search center goes to wrong site collection from mysite search

Hello!

Our SharePoint environment has three web applications: Intranet, MySite, and Repository.

Within the Intranet site we have four site collections, one per franchise.

From the MySite, if we use the search box, it returns you the Search Center for one of the site collections in a franchise site collection.

When I attempt to change the "Scope" in the MySite site collection "Search Settings" so that it returns you to the root site collection of the Intranet Web application, it doesn't take.

What am I doing wrong? How did the "Search Center" for one of the site collections even become the apparent default search?

Thanks in advance for any help and guidance you can provide!

Under the SSP in Central Admin there is a section called "My Site Settings". In here you have to define what search center you want My Sites to use.
