What do you mean by "host ID"?

All PTC products use the server machine's MAC or Ethernet Address for licensing purposes. This address is a permanent ID affixed to the Network Card and recognized on Ethernet based networks. PTC refers to this MAC or Ethernet Address as the HostID of the machine

if i change the mac address, will the VM still work? Can i change it to anything and just keep the same formating?

i tried changing the mac address int he .vmx file and when i saved it , the instance stop working ...

well what i found out was instead of copying the instance from vm to vm, just creating a new one from scratch, i was able to get a unique host id.
