Linux / ClamAV Eating up all available disk space

I'm running Ensim Pro X on a dedicated machine at The Planet in Houston.

The OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 5)

This evening my server ran out of disk space.

The /tmp directory contained hundreds of clamav-* sub-directories taking up over 200 GIGS of space.

I removed all of these files but they're coming back.

At clamav.net it says thay have disabled older versions as of yesterday (Apr 15, 2010) and a search on "clamav disk space" located a message suggesting that others are having this problem.

I can't get MySQL to start and I can't get into my Ensim Control panel although I can SSH.

How do I get clamav to stop?

Thanks.

Hi,

to stop clamav execute this command:

service clamav stop

Please keep in mind that when you stop clamav you also need to remove injection over your SMTP software depending on the installation method of your SMTP server and make. Otherwise this command might stop SMTP mail delivery.

Cheers,
K.

Thanks. I get clamav: unrecognized service when I try service clamav stop

In a panic I tried service MailScanner stop and it seems to have done the trick and mail seems to be moving in and out now.

I'm not too happy with the ClamAV people though. I wonder if it was just me or was it everybody running a version older than one year?

HI,

Actually you must upgrade Clamav software immediately after the new version is released to get better protection.

Also you stopped mailscanner service which means your mails are not scanned for virus now and it may cause you PC's/Network to get infect with the viruses! and hence i'll recommend you to upgrade your clamav software instead of stopping it.

Thanks. I don't know how to update it on my Ensim based machine. It seems too complicated. I have a consultant who usually helps out with things like this but he's only available during the week so I have to keep it turned off until Monday.

One problem now is that Squirrelmail no longer allows people to login but Outlook POP3 and SMTP seem to work.

HI,

What is the error while accessing Squirrelmail?

It complains that the user and password are incorrect.
