I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello,

OK what you sent it's already great but the most important issue is how to upgrade from NBU 6.5, what I mean is where we need to download the files (Which Directory).

What command do I have to run to unzip the file and run the install.

Dear daveviolante,

The "Version Upgrades FAQ" (http://www.symantec.com/business/products/upgrades/faq/index.jsp) has references for how to download using FileConnect. FileConnect will provide you the instructions for downloading and what to do next.

A very good description of those steps are detailed in the "Upgrading to the latest version of a product" http://customercare.symantec.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/114

Last but not least, check out the "6.5.5 Readme Information" on http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/337041.htm

Kind regards,

OK I might need to formulate the question differently.

We do have Netbackup 6.5 and we bought the application off from another company that close down but we do not have a Symantec Support.  We do not really need to upgrade to a complete higher version but we need to go from 6.5 to 6.5.5 release update.

I am able to download the release without having a valid Symantec support but I do not understand the Mechanism how to make the updates happen. The link you sent are valid and I saw them even previously but there is a lot of confusion on where and how to install the the update release 6.5.5.

I am not able to let the live update working I installed it from the CD that we bought than I create the live update policy but when I run it fails immediately.

Do we need also a Symantec support contract for update the 6.5 to 6.5.5?

If yes why I am able to download all those release?

It's all very confusing

Dear daveviolante,

it may very well be that you'll need to have a Symantec support contract (which I did assume you have since you have already have 6.5 installed), but I guess you'd need to ask Symantec support directly for that.
Nevertheless, as far as I recall, if you try to install a newer version from CD/DVD media on a machine which already have an older installed, it will ask you if you wish to retain existing jobs, catalogues etc. during the upgrade.
But at least on the CD/DVD media, should be a readme/guide for how to perform the upgrade from that media.

Otherwise I am running out of advices to you - sorry.
Wish you all the best going forward.

Kind regards,
Soren

No no what I mean is still different.

The CD of Netbackup that we have is the 6.5 and this is already installed with backups running.
The above mentioned CD is the one that we bought off from another company.

Now our currently installed release is 6.5 and we want to go to 6.5.5 (This is called Release update).

We do NOT have Symantec Support but I have noticed that I am able to download the release 6.5.5 so this means that the Support is not needed for downloading the release update which is already on my Linux Sles 11.1 Desktop.

How do I install it? Have you ever worked with Symantec product?
Do you know linux sles 11.1
I need someone that knows the product and tells me how to install the release update, I follwed the instructions on the symantec website but they do not work and I cannot call them because we do not have support and we do not want to buy one otherwise I wouldn't use Expert Exchange to get an issue solved

Also I am not looking to get the problem solved looking at Symantec Website because the link that you provided are known by me it is just because I do not understand the way how the explain things

If you know the Symantec product and if you ever upgraded a netbackup 6.5 you should understand what I mean. If you not sure never mind somebody will help

You need to download "lusetup.exe" and run luall.exe after to check your support status and get available patches.
(i.e you need latest LiveUpdate to get product update)
