Unfortunately most word to jpg/png converters are shareware and not freeware.
Download and install the following converter:
http://www.topshareware.com/PDF-DOC-HTML-PPT-GIF-JPG-files-converter-download-54218.htm

Download and install Infraview:
http://www.sticksite.com/irfanview/

1. Convert your word document to a JPG/PNG using the converter.
2. Open the converted JPG/PNG in Infraview.
3. Click on File -> Save As.... Select PNG in Save as type. Over on the right you will see some options. Under PNG. Check "Save transparent color" and then check "Choose transparent color during saving". Type in a file name then click Save. Now it will show the image and you can click anywhere on the background (white) to set the transparent color. Now the PNG will have a transparent background.

Hope this makes sense. You will need to pick the best word to image converter you can find. The one I listed above is only an example.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm glad it works for you.
Do you mean combine multiple pdf pages into one pdf file?
