Notes 8 basic - no IM users listed - see attached image

Hi

IM is working but no users are listed in the 'instant messaging contact list' ('<unavailable>' is shown)

Pls see attached.

I've monkeyed for a wile and can't figure this out. Pls help..

I think probably you haven't add contacts in same time for which follow the following steps

Adding IBM Lotus Sametime contacts

IBM® Lotus® Sametime® contacts are displayed in your sidebar contact list. You can add contacts to your contact list from any of your instant messaging communities at any time.
Each Sametime contact you add must be associated with a personal group. You cannot add Sametime contacts to public groups.
Note: If the capability is available to you and you add an external contact, such as someone who is a member of a public instant messaging server, you might not be able to view the contact's status information or start a chat with them until the contact has given you permission. After they do, you can view their online status and chat with them.

   1. Click File > New > Sametime Contact. Your system administrator determines which fields to display in the New Contact dialog box.
   2. On the Lookup Name tab, for the Community field, if more than one community name is displayed, select the community to which the contact you are adding belongs. For example, if the contact you are adding works at your company, select your company's corporate directory community, such as yourcompany.abc.com.
   3. To add an internal contact, follow these steps and then go to step 4:
         1. For the User name field, type one or more letters of the name of the contact you want to add.
         2. Click Lookup to show matches with what you type.
         3. If more than one name is displayed, select the name of the contact you want to add.
         4. Click Add.
      You can also click the Browse for Name tab, if it is available, to search for names from an alphabetical list, based on the letters that you type.
   4. To add an external contact, follow these steps:
         1. On the Lookup Name tab, select Add external user by e-mail address.
         2. In the E-mail field, enter the full e-mail address of the contact, for example, person@place.com.
         3. In the Provider field, if this field is available, select the public instant messaging service to which the contact you are adding belongs.
   5. Optional: In the Nickname field, you can type a unique name for this contact. The nickname is displayed only in your contact list, not in other people's contact lists.
   6. You must associate this contact with an existing group or a group that you create. Do one of the following options.
          * To associate this contact with the group that is displayed in the Add to group field, go to step 8.
          * To associate this contact with another existing group, click Change and select a group from the list. Go to step 7.
          * To create a new group, click Change and type the name of a new group for this contact in the Create a new group field. Go to step 7.
   7. To keep the new group on the same level, click OK. To indent the new group under an existing group in the contact list, click Add as a subgroup to selected group above and select the name of the group under which the new group will be displayed. Then click OK.
   8. Click Add.

I think the Basic Client is different

As menu item "File > New > Sametime Contact" doesn't exist - see attached 'NoSametimeMenu'

Also, nothing happens when 'add to instant contact' is clicked - see attached 'addinstant.jpg'

Thanks fot the help.. I really need to get this fixed..

what i have posted is for the same version which you are using. Did you tried by manually adding the contacts with there email ids in the list or are you sure that there are users who are using the sametime server as well.

The place in bottom where "I m active" is written open that menu and try to add contacts  Or for further reference see the link below
