Mobile devices will not sync to exchange

our mobile devices will not sync to exchange, if I restart all the exchange services on the small business server 2003 then it works for about a minute and then quits.  My laptop is working with exchange using a VPN and the desktops at the office seem fine, it is just the syncing with the windows mobile devices and my itouch that quit working sometime around 6pm today.

Please, help

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Look in the application logs located in event viewer. What errors are logged related to the problem? Let me know what you find.

Are there are any error or warnings related to active sync?

Also run Connect to Internet wizard once and check ActiveSync.

Hope this helps!

Including your latpop, what mobile devices do you use for sync purposes?
btptech1Author Commented:
Windows Mobile phones and iphone. But they were working fine until now. Also, there is problem with going to www.mydomain\exchangeserver from both internally and externally. I think there is a problem with Exchange server and not with devices.
Did you check to make certain the IIS and services are running? Let me know.
btptech1Author Commented:
OK. ASP.NET service wasn't running. I started it.
Check out the sync, is working again?

Still having issues with ActiveSync.

Have you run the tests in my article that bryon44035v3 posted (
If you have - you should receive an error which when compared to my article, should give you guidance as to what to do next.
I pretty much have the Exchange 2003 / Activesync solutions wrapped up into a single article, so if it cannot help you, then your only choice is to call Microsoft, but please run the tests first and report back the results (if you get stuck).
Are you able to access the email intranet website, and or is OWA working now?
Check you have Internet Connectivity on the Exchange server.
Have you done Service pack 2 for exchange?
The question about service pack 2 is good. Activesync was introduced with it's release. You certainly need it, and might solve your problem if you re-installed it. Let us know how you make out.
Alan HardistyCo-OwnerCommented:
The requirement for Exchange Service Pack 2 is covered in my article under the PreRequisites section at the very top.

The sync issue were resolved after the sbs 2003 server was rebooted.
