There exists an ODBC driver for Adabas D. See e.g
http://addons.searchalot.com/texis/open/search?&q=unix+odbc+adabas

Writing it from scratch is surla not a snap and need knowledge about the native C API and ODBC. That you are trying it for the first time suggest that you does not have expereriences in that areas. So be prepared for a tough time.

MaxDB is name of Adabas D followup.
ODBC driver source tells it still connects to old DBs

Well full solve would be a years job. So feel free not to accept my answer. It's not my thing to tell you, well just start ,it will be a snap....

see here to get a "small" idea  on what all is needed.

Ask yourself if  that is  really what you want, or if it wouldn't be better to use the native  API for it.

Adabas is non-SQL database
Adabas D is SQL database which turned into MaxDB (German company SAP took German-made major DB and polished it for their needs)
