Htaccess rewrite condition issue

I have the following code in htaccess:

RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^browse_by=subject&detail=14$
RewriteRule ^samples_gallery.php$ /gallery/subject/women? [L,R=301]

However, this url is going only to /gallery

The /subject/women part of url is not being carried on. I also have redirects from samples_gallery.php to gallery and from browse_by=subject to subject.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It works fine for me, however if you have multiple rules that can match a particular URL, you must specify them in the right order. It will use the first rule it finds that matches your URL.

So, using your examples, like this:

# rewrites for samples_gallery.php?browse_by=subject&detail=14
# rewrites for samples_gallery.php?browse_by=subject
# rewrites for samples_gallery.php
In other words, put your most specific rule at the top.
