Can not connect to a FTP serer on a Main frame computer using FtpWebRequest

I have Windows application written in VB.NET that implements a file upload feature to a FTP server on a Main frame computer.  I use FtpWebRequest class in System.Net namespace to create the connection but I keep getting errors.  I search the Web and seem like quite a lot of questions like my errors have been asked but I can not find any answer yet.  The errors I got usually errors number 501 or 550.  Any body the aswer to this problem, please help.

Thank you.

Unless your writing to a Unix file system on the mainframe you'll first need to specify the necessary storage characteristics before the upload, usually done via a FTP "quote" command, see:

Unfortunately I don't believe the FtpWebRequest class supports this functionality.

About a decade back I used the an OnNet FTP dll / class, supplied with there now obsolete FTP client, to send the necessary commands. I've also written some code to fork a MS command line ftp session, in order to up-load file, as it support the use of the quote command.
