I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I hope that you are actually talking about Red Hat ENTERPRISE Linux 5. The cconfiguration files for the services are found in /etc/pam.d folder, and it is one file per service.
For instance,this is sshd.d file:
account    required
auth       required service=system-auth
auth       required
account    required service=system-auth
password   required service=system-auth
session    required service=system-auth
session    required
session    optional

Just to be brief:every line consists of:
1)module type-it can be account,auth,password or session
2)control flags can be required, requisite, optional or sufficient
3)the name of module
4)module options.
