good brand of KVM

Can you give a good link for a good brand of KVM switch.

The goal is to share the monitor/keyboard/mouse control to another laptop (both laptops will sit next to each other).

It would not need any software to be installed for it, in any of the 2 laptops?

Tripplite is a good brand of KVM Switches.

If you dont want to access KVM the BIOS of the computers, you can use Windows remote desktop, for which you don't need to install any software.

Just right click on "my computer", select "properties", click on "Remote" and click on "Allow Users to connect Remotely to this computer".

click on the button "select remote users" and select the users from the list

Now you can access either PC from the other one, using Remote Desktop Connection.

Click start -> Programs-> Accessories->remote desktop connection. type the name/Ip address of the other PC. provide the username and password.

Thanks. For Tripplite, do you install a software, if so, on all laptops, or just any one?

I have used many brands for many different solutions, my favorite Iogear.  They let you manipulate things like controlling one system while the audio and our usb attached peripheral stays connected to another system.

If all you will need is a two port they have a few solutions for short money.
If you think there will be a need to add another PC/laptop, go with a 4 port...

For about $40, the GCS661U will allow you easily control both from one system and it give you file transfer without having to use a separate monitor and key board.

anushahanna,

No need of software for a KVM switch because a software comes to picture after windows or any OS is started. But we should be able to control the PC with KVM switches even before starting the OS.

Also, this KVM switch doesnot require an additional power supply.
