My client's exchange server went down this morning (was completely powered off).  I checked the event logs and the Application log keeps getting POP3SVC errors.  Not sure if it has anything to do witht the server being down but any ideas what this error means?  Thanks in advance.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I could indicate a problem with the POP3 service of Exchange. Can you post the complete Event ID?
Most of the time when a server powers down completely by itself this indicates a cooling problem.
The server could be overheated.

You're completely correct about the overheating.  The office's AC system shuts off during off hours.  Thanks.  Here's the event ID error.

As a temporary test, you can disable the AV for Exchange solutions. Make
sure you disable any related service, and then export and delete the
following registry key:

After that, restart the Information Store service.
Test to see if the issue persists.

If it does, dismount the mailbox store and run from the exchsrvr\bin folder
the following (replace ServerName with the correct name):
isinteg -s ServerName -fix -test alltests
Select the mailbox store.

After it completes, remount the mailbox store and re-test

Should I reinstall Trend Micro on the Exchange server?
Satya PathakLead Technical ConsultantCommented:
Okay, you also try to disable all trend micro service and reboot the server once and check it.
This might give you a resolution to get rid of the message:

Notice: use at your own risk - especially when using MFCMAPI
1) Download MFCMAPI from Microsoft (its free - used to be call MAPI Editor)
2) Open the Mailbox in question (use an Outlook profile to control which mailbox is open) with MFCMAPI by doing this:
   - Session > Log on and Display table > Choose the correct profile as mentioned above
   - Double-click the mailbox (new window opens) > expand the Root mailbox > Expand IPM_Subtree
   - Double-click desire folder (new window opens) > Now you should see all the items in this folder
   - Find the offending message (the "Instance key" field contains the message ID reported in the event viewer)
   - Right-click the offending message and select delete message
And please check if you have the latest service pack and updates for Exchange server installed.
There is also a hotfix available for a simular problem. The discription error number varies a little so I would suggest you try the above first. Her is the hotfix link:
Any luck yet?
