Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11 - IIS 6?

Hello,
I'm attempting to install Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on a windows 2003 R2 server, and it seems that when the install tried to configure IIS it returns

minVer:2
majver:5

I'm running IIS 6.0 I believe (although I have it in IIS 5.0 isolation mode).  Note I do have a website on this box as well

 Any Suggestions?

Hi,

Please confirm the exact IIS version and also the symantec endpoint protection full version.
Also check this link for IIS issues: http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007101209193548

Also if the installation is rolling back then it will create an installation log file.
Can you please upload it? it will be under %temp% location with name SEPM_INST.log

I can confirm we are running IIS 6.
Install version:
SEP Build 11.0.1000.1112
CMC/SNAC Build 11.0.1000.1091
SESM Build 11.0.1000.1049

And the abbreviated log (huge log, this is the final lines where it looks to try to config IIS).  Note I don't see an error per se, the csript window just hands with the above mentioned min/majver message.  If I close the csript window it rolls back.   It will hang on that window

Hi,

As the the messages in the logs and the version that you have mentioned, this issue was known with the MR1 version that you are trying to install.
This version of Symantec endpoint protection is really old.
I would recommend to install the latest version of symantec endpoint protection. It is SEP 11.0 RU6.
->http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007082915561148
-> There are a lot of issues and bugs fixed that were observed in MR1, MR2, MR3  MR4 and MR5 versions.
-> So instead of installing this version with all the issues, please go ahead and download the latest version of SEP 11.0 and install it for smooth installation.

Regards,
Pradeep Jhala

Hi,

Please have a look at this release notes document from symantec and you will come to know what all bugs and issues have been fixed with this latest version compared to the version MR1 that you are trying to install

What is the config of the site you have on IIS?

If you stop this site can you install the product?

There are 3+ minutes when nothing appears to be written to that log.

 [22:09:36:072]: to [22:12:44:885]
what happens in that time.

It seems to have a problem with the IIS extensions. What extensions does it need do you know? php? Are they installed already.

Thanks for the prompt replies, I'll see what I can do to get the newer release

I've stopped my site - still get the same issue.  Site is running PHP (conflict?) with PHP ISAPI service extension.

Ummh never used the product and difficult diagonising another products install but it could be that it is not expecting php to be there (it is not by default in IIS 6.0) and trying to install it and erroring.

But it might just be easier trying a new version if you can if they have that many bugs.

I do think that there may be a conflict with my current IIS/website setup.  Symantec does look to be trying to setup PHP, which is already there due to my LMS/Moodle site.  I'm also attempt's to install on another 2k3 box, but is hanging on DB creation (it's an older box)

The returned :
minVer: 2
Majver: 5

makes me think that this current version doesn't want to play with IIS 6 (which is possibly fixed in the newer versions).  I am installing on my local server, here in a satellite office, so I do not have the creds currently to log in to the Symantec software protal.  I will need to follow up with my team members at the HQ

The version of SEP that you're trying to install (11.0.1000) is very old, and my recollection of that release was that it was pretty buggy in general. The most current version is 11.0.6000.  Provided that you have a support contract with Symantec (which I hope you do since you can't legally download antivirus definition updates unless you do), it would be a good idea to download the most current version and try that instead. Go to the following website and put in your current Symantec serial number to download the newest software:

Hi,

Thats great, its always better to troubleshoot with the updated product rather than messing around with old version.
