I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Your emachines uses the Intel® PRO 10/100 Mbps built-in Ethernet.

Try to identify the specific adapter within device manager and then check for the drivers in the list below:

Windows XP*

   1. Click Start
   2. Right-click My Computer
   3. Select Properties
   4. Click Hardware tab
   5. Click Device Manager button
   6. Expand Network adapters section, right-click on the Intel Network Adapter
   7. Select Properties
   8. Click Details tab
   9. Select Device Instance Id from the pull down
  10. Match the PCI\VEN and DEV IDs
(i.e. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10F1&xxxxxxxxx) to those listed in the "Additional Information" column in table below

If that one does not work you can try one of the following:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_Desc.asp?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=996&DwnldID=4240

http://www.network-drivers.com/companies/496.htm?acd=3&rvd=5&thx=9&bng=7&o=5

If none of these work throw your computer out a window.
