Unable to access SBS 2003 OWA - HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error

Server 2003 SBS with SP2 and all available updates applied

Users unable to access OWA at www.companyname.com/exchange

HTTP friendly messages turned off, this is what we get:  HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error

Outlook connectivity is not affected
'iisreset' did not resolve

When I try to right click>browse on the Exchange virtual directory within IIS, the page cannot be displayed.
