What camera? What kind of processor? Are you using a camera or a headset? USB or 3.5mm inputs?

I am using a Logitech C500 camera(USB) and a Audigy sound card on a Windows 7 64 bit system. No troubles so far.  I just play the sound through my speakers, or I can plug a headset into speaker jack. Microphone is in camera.

I have also used a Microsoft V-3000 camera successfully.

I don't know how to correct it but was hoping to offer an alternative setup that would work for you.
I have never tried Skype on this setup with just a microphone etc. I have always used the USB connected webcam as a microphone.
Is your microphone a 3.5 mm jack in type?

Can you borrow a webcam, or a USB headset to try to see if that alters the situation any?

Sorry I don't have a fix.
