HP Laserjet 4350tn streaks when printing envelopes from tray 1

I have a Laserjet 4350tn that prints perfect from all trays except when printing envelopes from tray 1.  The envelope gets fed through the paper path normally but leaves a streak about an inch away from the return address.  If I rub my finger over the print it smudges. I physically inspected the transfer, and fuser rollers.  Maintenance kit still has over 50% life but have not been changed in over 3 years.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. It is probably due to the heat required to transfer through the thickness of the envelope.  Tyr to cut a piece of paper the size of an envelope and see if it works propeerly.  If it does then you will know it is something to do with the envelope thickness.  Youu may find it to be the fuser and/or maintenance kit.  If you have another unit available you could try swapping parts for testing without wasting money.

Make sure you tell the printer that envelopes or card are loaded in tray one, so it will apply extra heat.

I will check out your suggestions and post the results thx.
Any luck?  I assume when you go to print envelopes that one you select print and have your printer listed that you are selecting printer preferences - paper - type and selecting envelopes (or what ever window selection you have) ??

Thanks guys.  Yihateu, I took your advice and cut a piece of paper the size of the envelope and fed it through tray one, it printed just fine.  Now I know that the fuser was working fine. The client was using new envelopes with very coarse paper, so the next step was choosing the right paper type for the envelope.  Fixed!  The key was to tell the printer to apply extra heat to tray one print jobs because of the extra coarse envelopes.
