Error with Active Sync Exchange 2003
Hi,
I am trying to set up active sync with Exchange on server 2003. When I run a scan from here https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com Everything passes but this
Attempting an ActiveSync session with server
Errors were encountered while testing the ActiveSync session
Test Steps
Attempting to send OPTIONS command to server
Testing the OPTIONS command failed. See Additional Details for more info
Additional Details
A Web Exception occurred because an HTTP 401 - Unauthorized response was received from IIS6
If I go to https://owa.companyname.com/oma I get a login and i can log in and get a text based inbox.
I can't figure out why this is happening. I am sure it is something simple that I am just missing.
Thanks

Hi alanhardisty,
I have gone through and made the changes I even reset the default virtual directories. OWA is working no problem but I can't get Active sync to work for the life of me. But the good news is it seems to authenticate ok now.....BUT now I am getting a different error...lol.
Attempting FolderSync command on ActiveSync session
FolderSync command test failed
Additional Details
An HTTP 403 forbidden response was received. The response appears to have come from Unknown. Body is:

HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden

This is the most trouble i have ever had getting activesync to work. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Unfortunately, if you have tried everything in my article and you still have the 500 error then I can't help you any more and recommend that you call Microsoft, as something is not quite right.
If you do call them and get the problem resolved, I would love to know what they do to get the problem solved.

Hi Alan,
SO i decided to start all over. becasue i am still having no luck. so our OWA server is this https://owa.company.com/exchange. now for the activesync server i am just putting in owa.company.com. does that sound right? could that be my issue? although it does seem to connect.

Yes to owa.company.com - nothing after it needs to be added.

Is the certificate named owa.company.com?
ASKER
hmmm not sure. where do i check that?
Open up IIS Manager, expand web sites, right-click your default web-site and choose properties. Click on the Directory Security tab and then on view certificate button.
You will see the name on the certificate right in the middle of the window.

I jsut followed the instructions for this (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3052&kbid=215383). it made no difference. I am still getting the 500 error.

Yes I just did that again today.about an hour ago
Okay - can you please download and install the Massync.dll update (conveniently posted in the following EE question):

Not guaranteed to fix the problem, but one less possibility to rule out before a call to Microsoft : (

No probs - the 500 error sometimes I can fix, other times it's a Microsoft phone call. I'll hope for the former.

If you have tried those then we are nearly at telephone time.
Once last thing to try that was posted in another Activesync question that is still open is the following:
http://serverfault.com/questions/41354/exchange-server-not-serving-mobile-devices-how-to-troubleshoot
At the bottom of the article is a "Fix after two days of troubleshooting". Do you want to try that and report back?
If not, then I am out of ideas I'm afraid and it's time to call in Microsoft.
