.Net 4.0 Benefits for Winforms Development

What are some of the benefits that can be gained by moving up to .Net 4.0 from .Net 2.0 for a Winforms application with a SQL Server backend.  I am not too concerned about presentation layer improvements as I already use third party controls that provide a great UI.  Main areas of interest are performance issues, ease of development, and general feature set improvements.

I think that there's not a clear benefit in using net 4.0 winforms unless you translate your application to WPF but this is a hard work.

If you are going from 2.0 to 4.0 then you also have to take note of everything added with 3.0/3.5 as well.

LINQ is an obvious biggy, plus the addition of WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation), WCF (Windows Communication Foundation), Windows Workflow and MVC.

.Net 4.0 adds some new features to each of these areas, plus support for Parallel programming and more support for developing cloud based applications and mobile apps.

There have also been some tweaks to the GC to alter the way it works and improve performance.

I guess it largely depends on the type, and size, of applications you develop as to whether or not it provides any additional benefits.
