Exchange 5.5 Global

I have just setup Exchange 5.5 for test purposes.

However I need to view and set permissions for public folders which does seem to work via exchange admin tool under public folder
So I have downloaded PFDAVAdmin – but I get an error when trying to connect
"Failed to connect to the Global catalog.
Exception: An invalid DN syntax has been specified".
I have been into sites and services and NTDS and the global catalog is ticked!

Also on this note – how do I view public folder from the client units, as this does not show in the folder list.

Thanks

Exchange 5.5 for test pusposes? You know the current version is Exchange 2010?

Anyway public folder permissions can only be set via outlook.
Any reason why you are installing into test, a product that was released in Feb 1998 and for which support expired on 31st Dec 2003 and Extended Support in Jan 2006?

ASKER

Yes - I know its old hat
But my client is only just about ready to upgrade and he wants to go down the line of

5.5 to 2003, then 2003 to 2007, then to 2010
He wants to test them with his older applications that link into email.

I though that you had to use outlook...
but when i open up the folder list - no public folders are there?
Do I need to set something in Exchange to see public folders?
Ok - logged in as a different user - can now see public folder

Is there away to add an email account to this public folder - like in 2003?
Sorted
Wouldn't it be easier to just go straight to 2010 in a fresh installation?
It would actually be migrations, you cannot do an inplace upgrade of 5.5 to 2003
You cannot do an inplace upgrade from 2003 to 2007
You cannot do an inplace upgrade from 2003 to 2010.

You have a LOT of work ahead of you
Yep!

Thanks guys
PFDAVAdmin won't work on Exchange 5.5 as it uses DAV calls which are only available in Exchange 2000 and above.

Use PFAdmin if you want to change Exchange 5.5 PF Permissions or do it from Exchange 5.5 Administrator, give yourself Owner permissions and then you can assign permissions to other people via Outlook
Why would you want to do this when you can use Outlook without any problems?

I believe the author has already confirmed they have done this?
