Do you have licensing for both ESX hosts?

Are you running low on diskspace where the vCenter database is kept?  It might be that your DB logs are not getting backed up causing low disk space preventing vCenter from running.

Any errors in the Windows Event log where vCenter is installed?

Sounds like there's another instance.  When you uninstalled it did you uninstall the database or the SQL2005 Express instance?

Just curious what is stopping you from reinstall both SQL server and vCentre server on your physical box? You might have some corrupted files on your current installation.

Before you tried to add the other ESX host to your virtual center, have you deleted the vpx user account on the ESX host first?

Can you check the last few lines in the logfile under the folder "“C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs"  . That will give a more detail error
