changing SQL Server to Mixed Authentication Mode

Hi,
I've got SQL server on my PC and remote sever and am trying to log into the database on the server from my PC. after resolving some issues I have come to a point where I I need to ensure that I have it set in mixed authentication mode.
Firstly How do I check to see if it is and secondly (as I don't think it is) how do I change it to Mixed authentication mode.
Many thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
