2008 Active Directory Migration to new hardware

Great day all,

I have recently been set the task to move our Windows 2008 DC to new Server

I currently have 1 Windows 2008 Domain Controllers, on a server that i would like to maybe remove

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on how to go about this migration Mmy DC to different Server, and preferably keep the current Domain Controller names and IP Addresses., User, all of it. If you know of any software that would do that please help

Hope this posting makes sense and appologies in advance if there have been any other threads similar to this already created which I havent spotted

I would build the new domain controller, move the roles from the old server to the new, decomission the old domain controller and then rename and the new dc to the original dc's name and change the ip to the original dc's ip.

--Things to consider before migration to new hardware.
--Are you going to keep same DC host name ?
--Are you going to use same IP address?
--If you are changing your name and IP if it will have influence on your network ( Firewall Roles etc..)
--Is the server DHCP server
--Is the server root CA? – I’m not sure if you can migrate Enterprise Root CA – May be Restore from Backup
--Is the server Global Catalog ?
Preparation steps:
--Make full Backup of your Active Directory.
--Install new server and join it to your domain
--Install DNS Service (use active directory integrated zone) that will allow DNS records to replicate
--Install DHCP service on. Migrate DHCP database.
--Migrate FSMO roles to new installed server.
--Set New server as Global Catalog if you don’t have other DC in your site that operates as Global Catalog.
-Remove old machine from domain.

--Demote the domain controller by running DCpromo

--Disjoin the server from the domain

--How do I move all of my files, shares, permissions, user accounts, etc. from the old server to the new one?
