Revert to old system wallpaper

Hi,

I had a really cool desktop wall paper for the last few years. My house mate changed my wall paper as a joke last night but now I can't revert back to my old wallpaper as I don't have the original picture. Is it possible to revert by some other means?

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try it with System restore. Start > Accessoires >System Tools > System Restore.
Set the System back prior the change.

Look in here as well....

start>run>%appdata%\Microsoft\ for a file called wallpaper1,bmp. Thats probably the current one, unless they used another file (believe it copies itself to this location though.....). Your current pic might be there as another name, at the root of the folder....

Secondly....

%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

There might be a file called Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp. Might be your file......

sometimes xp hides it here:
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\windows

sometimes here:
c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows

probably called something like 'internet explorer wallpaper.bmp'

The system restore didn't work. They don't recognise the wallpaper as a change I think

The old file wasn't to be found in any of those locations either :(

you could also check one of the following folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

Depending on how bad you want this, you can try digging into the System Restore Points for an older ntuser.dat, for your user account, and then mount it in Regedit>File>Load Hive, and navigate to the reg entry.....

Not sure of your comfort level with this, but if your up for a challenge, we can proceed.....
