Blackberry 8100 Pearl - pdf viewing question

Hi

I have a Blackberry 8100 Pearl with v4.5.0.102 software.

When I zoom in on a pdf, it is all blurry and I can't see anything...however, I have no "full image" option as described here: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB12375

The only options I have are:

Thanks for your help!

I don't want to spend anything so looks like I'm out of luck.  I can view this particular pdf from an email but it gets quite blurry when I zoom in.  It must be this particular pdf.

Are you connected to a BES or is this a standalone device? If BES, what version and patch level? If standalone - you could try using a 3rd party app such as Documents to Go (http://www.dataviz.com/products/documentstogo/blackberry/).

BES.  Running Blackberry Professional  v4.1.4.3

Why isn't then enhance option available?

Free Tool: ZipGrep

ZipGrep is a utility that can list and search zip (.war, .ear, .jar, etc) archives for text patterns, without the need to extract the archive's contents.

One of a set of tools we're offering as a way to say thank you for being a part of the community.

you need to update your built-in Docs to Go, be default, the v4.5 firmware has v1.001, the latest out last month was 2.001 which is about 10 updates behind.  Unless you can push it out to all handsets via your BES, you can register each user/handset and get the regcode via email, then visit their site on the handset, and login with user's surname and the code, this will then give you link to upgrade the standard Docs to Go to the latest version.

you might want to look at Blackberry Server Express too, its now free, and has many more features than Pro.

Do I have to buy Docs to Go?

no standard version is built into all v4.5+ firmware, but when updating an old handset from a version previous to v4.5, you must select Docs 2 Go from the install components list, otherwise it does not get added by default (also allows you the chance to remove any modules you don't need such as foreign languages and add some spell checker / dictionary addons.  Lates Docs2Go is now at 2.0004, default version installed is 1.0001, you will need to register each install, use the About code and surname of user to login to Dataviz website on the handset, you will then be allowed to pull down the update and then be prompted to reboot.

also recommend Google Maps add-on (http://m.google.com/maps/)

You need to buy the premium version, before you can push it out via the BES server.

Hmm, looks like the latest build available for the 8100 is 4.2, which I already have installed.

no, the latest build for most 8100's is v4.5.0.302, which gives you the new interface and Docs2Go

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp - pick your country's carrier from the list and see if they released an 8100 v4.5 firmware package.

Sorry...I'm blind...I do have the latest 4.5 build installed from that link for my carrier.

I updated Docs2Go to the latest using this link - /http://www.dataviz.com/getdocstogo

However, I only see Word, Excel and Powerpoint for Docs2Go.  Is the pdf part an added cost?

You should be able to view PDF's on any berry natively ( i can on my Pearls, Curves and Bolds), provided they have come in on an email and they get rendered by the Attachment Service on the BES.  you cannot open stored PDF's natively without a 3rd party add-on, such as Docs2Go's Premium version, which adds the PDF viewer ($40), or Repligo Reader for Blackberry, which is only $15.  Enterprise versions are also available if you wish to cover all your users.

http://www.cerience.com/products/reader/blackberry

also found a free convert utility, which you can email a PDF, and get an HTML version back, which will be easier to read/render - http://www.pdf2mobile.com/

Beamreader does a similar task to Repligo - http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/1306 and costs about the same.  Sorry no easy way out of this.

yes you can't zoom in too much, but if you wait, the render should clear it up a wee bit, mine does on most PDF's, but it could depend on the resolution used to make the pdf.
