XML Error

I have done an xml application so far wrks!!! but when i add a new customer and go to process their meter gives me error

Fatal error: Call to a member function appendChild() on a non-object in C:\xampplite\htdocs\final_dwax\processmeter.php on line 83

it only when i add new customer from the application its not picking it up????
but when i hard code it in the xml file theirs no probs but thats not very useful.

got rid of the .htaccess

Also it does pick up the customer id from new customer that was adding using the application in bill payment
