Deploying a KMS server

Hi,

We are deploying a Windows 7 image to 40 pc's using Nortin Ghost.  We are looking to use KMS rather than MAK to license the OS due to the number of allowed activations within MAK.  Is there an easy to follow user guide on deploying KMS into a network?  The KMS will be installed on a Windows 2003 server.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the KMS guide.  I have downloaded the KMS service + update (listed in the guide) from MS.  When I insert our KMS key provided by MS we receive an error stating 'the software licensing service reported that the product key is invalid.  After installing the update for KMS it stated a reboot was required which I have not done yet as it is a live server.  The document refers to a KMS server product key , is thsi something I need?

Thanks

you have to use the KMS Key not the MAK (Multi Activation Key = Volume Licence)

We are using the KMS key - When trying to install the KMs key for Windows 7 we get an error.  Also an event id 1017 -  installation of proof of purchase failed hr=0xC004F050 - Like I said before I have not rebooted the 2003 server after the update that comes with the KMS installer.  Do you think this maybe an issue?  Is the update related to Windows 7 as the KMS key os for Windows 7.

Thanks

I have just added a Vista KMS product key and it applied fine - it is just an issue with the Windows 7 product key.
