i reinstalled my pc running windows xp.
the sound driver is a realtek 880/860
i get sounds ok but when i look for the microphone settings in the sound settings its not there
any idea what to do

open sound settings > options > properties > adjust volume for "recording" > tick microphone in below list.

all that shows is
master volume
sw synth
cd player
look at upper left corner >options > properties > select recording or if its disabled > look at second attached image.

look at show following volume control > tick microphone > ok > close.
